Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare

Category: Games

Wowz. Quite an amazing game. This first person shooter is set apart by it’s realistic qualities and fast pace speed and also that all fighting and weaponry is set in the present. Which is a nice turn from the WWII genres that Call of Duty had stuck with in the past. I’m most impressed with the lighting effects, explosion effects, and vision focus/blur effects. While mixed in with the beautiful photo like reality it simulates a near real battle area. The multiplayer utilizes a level up system which follows similar ranks to military ranks. With each ranking you have the possibility of getting different items or skills that can be used to your advantage. This game makes other FPS’s look like a joke.

QuickSilverScreen = Movies

Category: General

qss_logo.jpg

Quicksilverscreen.com is quite remarkable.  Free movie streams to your computer and the best part is that you don’t have to sign up for ANYTHING.  As long as you have DivX or DivX plugin for Mozilla Firefox you can simply click on the movie/tv show/cartoon you’d like to watch and it is all streamed to your computer! ZOMGOSH!  Another + is that you get to watch movies that haven’t come out on DVD yet some movies are still in theaters when they are posted on the site.  The downside to quicksilver is that the movies posted don’t often last long.  They end up being removed from the site.  I think this is done so that they can keep server space? I don’t know, but what I do know is that I’m a fan of Quicksilver and you should check it out!

Changes to be Made: Fluxbox functionality and menus updated, get Motion working with webcam and setup homemade security camera (also make tutorial), I would like to make the blog more interactive, also look into fixing my contact widget or replace with an affective contact widget. And begin transferring information from external HD to server.

SOLD OUT

Category: General

So in the process of building a new machine, I was attempted to buy XFX PVT88PYDF4 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit Video card. I had been waiting 2 weeks for newegg to get some instock and as soon as they did…6 hours later they were completely out of stock again. I should have bought it when I had the chance… Oh well next time around I guess.14-150-252-03.jpg

Undergoing changes

Category: General

The server will be undergoing some changes soon.  The whole thing is going to be moved into the basement and will be running 24/7.  There will be some other miscellaneous changes that will occur, but my main focus is moving it downstairs.

Importing pictures from Camera with Linux systems

Category: Linux, Ubuntu

If you are looking to import pictures from your digital camera and you are a Linux user, then you should probably apt-get gphoto2. You know how easy it was to configure? This easy… sudo apt-get install gphoto2 (Plug camera in. Turn on camera. Computer asked to import images. Click yes.) Done.  Go here to find out more about importing images through Linux.

Portable USB OS Linux!

Category: Linux

I started an interesting little project the other day. It was based off of me trying to make sure that the computer parts that Tom gave me were functional. He gave me a tower with a motherboard, cpu, and power supply. He also gave me a cd-rom, but I had no IDE cable to plug into the motherboard. If I would have had an IDE cable I would have ran Ubuntu live-cd. So, instead I decided to put Puppy Linux on my thumb drive and boot the computer in Linux off of a USB. It took me a little bit to get it down to an exact science, mainly because the Puppy Linux version 3.00 Seamonkey doesn’t work with my laptop. But, I worked my way around it and followed this guide.  If you have an extra USB drive to spare and you want to attempt it go there and try it out. Now, I have a portable OS that saves information directly to the USB. Very neat and very fun.

Puppy Linux E:P <— Puppy Face

Category: Linux

Very cool! Puppy Linux is a bare bone type of Linux distro when Ubuntu, Kubuntu, or Fedora just won’t work due to hardware restrictions. Puppy 3.00 recently was added and distributed on 10/2/2007. 3.00 is a slackware 12 compatible distribution that has a retro kernel version (2.6.18.1) in addition to the latest 2.6.21.7 Linux kernel. 3.00’s ISO sits at a 97mb download where as the bare bone version of Puppy comes to a grand total of an astounding 45mb ISO. Excellent for placing on a thumb drive!

Ubuntu 7.10!

Category: Ubuntu

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Beta. A lot of cool sounding features will be coming with this version. It comes with compiz pre-loaded on it. Mozilla Firefox plugins pre-installed and now I guess managing hardware will be even easier to handle. Which is exciting because that could mean that I won’t need to use Rutilt any longer for my wi-fi card. Dynamic screen config and also a graphical config tool for X! That means easy clicking to change resolution! Power consumption is supposed to be greatly lowered, but I’m not sure of the validity of that. Oh yeah, almost forgot NTFS-3G writing comes pre-installed. So now for people using Ubuntu Windows partitions on the same computer, easy file transferring between your partitions and hard drives can occur :) . NTFS-3G already existed, but now it just comes pre-installed. Exciting! Go Ubuntu!

Computer Lab Assistant

Category: General

Yes! Started my new job as a computer lab assistant at Kent State Stark. It is wonderful! I get to help students with computer problems and then I just clean the computer stations in every classroom and make sure that they are functioning properly. Clean printers and make sure they are functioning properly. There is a lot of downtime so I can get a lot of work done. Or if I don’t have any work I can pretty much just chill and have fun. I’m really excited about it and can’t wait till I’m doing this as my main job.
